Electricity Addiction

I am totally in love with indie flick Socket, a kind of body horror/scifi tale of people who get addicted to electricity and mod their bodies to suck up current better. Apparently when you get struck with lightning (at least in this movie) you are left with a hunger for more. Unfortunately, the most pure [...]

io9: Why Battlestar Galactica is the Best Political Drama on TV

This exclusive new preview clip for Battlestar Galactica season 4 reminds us why the science fiction series’ violent moral ambiguity has made it the most compelling political drama on TV. Sure the show is about humans fleeing for their lives from cyborgs in space, but it has a realistic, ripped-from-the-headlines urgency that 24 could only [...]

Cryosleep

Most people who underwent cryosleep have reported that the mind seems to naturally retreat into a place of infinite tranquility, where the experience of Time itself is distorted in a subtle way.

Although there is no trace of conscious activity in the brain of sleepers, it appears that Experience itself never ceases, creating atemporals bubbles of [...]

Octagonal

What is it with the future and octagonal sheets?

At least in the sense I understand science fiction – which is probably more correctly described as a commentary on current society by extrapolating trends and meditating about their consequences, whether they may be good (as in StarTrek with its idealised, peaceful earth) or bad (as explored in the genre of cyberpunk).

Of course, this might exclude some other works – most notably the whole StarWars saga, which in my opinion resembles more a fantastic epos than anything else.

Klima-Kriege

Looks like this is the next installment of BoingBoings seeminly neverending stream of Science Fiction novel recommendations: Peter Watts, who apparently writes gritty, dark and fast paced SF.
