I should take more care what I wish for. For sometimes, it comes true … most notably, if you have a really playful friend (which, in all honesty, is exactly what I (secretly) wished for, clearly without considering the consequences, notably the fact that I have to be prepared for surprises).
So. This evening, around 9 [...]
For future reference: Images placed in Microsoft Word for Mac v.X (yes, that’s quite an old version now) only print when having a width of less that 4096 pixel. Height seems to have no influence, neither does the colour mode (experiments have been conducted with both a 8bit-RGB TIFF and a Bitmap TIFF). And I [...]

After calling myself the Master of iTunes Smart Playlists, I’ve been asked to share some tips.
I can do so, even if I don’t know whether I can tell anyone anything fundamentally new. But then again I also made the experience that many people don’t use Smart Playlists at all or have no idea how they [...]
Quicksilver is probably my most used application on my Mac. Its developer, Nicholas Jitkoff1 gives a look behind the scenes at Google Tech Talks.
Found via habi.
He’s kinda cute on that vid, or as Merlin Mann puts it: “actually astonishingly good-looking”. Who says software developers have to be ugly grumpy nerds? I mean, there are even [...]
Since I a) get asked that a lot and b) Mathieu Tozer has a post with the same name, that gave me the inspiration and c) some people around me will get a shiny new Mac and d) some people actually read my blog (surprise!).
This is, for now, just a quick note to myself, soonish to expanded into a proper post. If possible.
Based on German Dvorak Type II by Matthias Halibrand, I made my own Dvorak keyboard layout for Mac OS X.
You can get it here. Basically, it’s a bastard for programmers and designers, with goodies like good reachable [...]
Why Apple has not yet proved that they really re-invented the phone. What this business needs is a platform that is open.
Irgendwann sind sie alle [bekehrt][1] …(Ich merke einfach wieder mal, dass ich schon vor langer Zeit eine Liste der Switcher und Noch-zu-Switchenden hätte machen sollen.
Turns out there is a similar clipboard for search strings. Select text, press ⌘E and afterwards you can use ⌘G to find next occurrence of the string you copied to this find clipboard (use ⇧⌘G to find previous).

Not that I actually had time to do this stuff – but this evening, I got hooked on Quartz Composer and started experimenting with it. Using trial and error, it was quite easy to grasp its concept. The result? X30 Starcatcher.
… and say: Abracadabra! Once again, Arcor from Quicksilver fame has silently released a new plug-in for Quicksilver – and this time, it’s Gestures.
