Boing Boing Gadgets: Is the iPhone the Next Wii?

Of all the software demonstrated at the iPhone SDK launch yesterday, nothing was more compelling to me than the games. With the addition of the iTunes App Store which will allow iPhone users to purchase and install third-party applications right from the phone, even over the relatively slow connection of the EDGE network, the reward [...]

There won’t be any third-party apps for the iPhone, says Steve Jobs. Luckily, soon enough, Apple will introduce some new iPhone products, including a rather small, reasonably priced one …

GUUUI: Motorola users are struggling with usability

Woven at 2006-11-01T10:18, coloured as .

According to a poll by the magazine Mobile, more than three quarters of Motorola mobile phone users would not buy another Motorola handset because they are too difficult to use.

Why does that not surprise me? Honestly, I love my RAZR for its sleek design, but the interface is both ugly and a pain to use. [...]

«The downside is that until now you had to carry your laptop with you to make full use of Plazes…. With the smartphone client you can make full use of the power of Plazes, on the go!»

plazes:blog about their new mobile services – and of course, the Motorola RAZR is nowhere near the compatible phones.

You know you are a nerd when you desperately want a possibility to view the source code of your text messsages on your mobile phone just the way you can do with e-mail.

Practical Magic

Since I now have my own laser printer (hey, thanks buddies!), I needed a new USB-hub – the old 4-port hub was full to the last port and an additional hub ceased to work some weeks ago. So I got myself a new one (which itself was an adventure, as the clerk insisted that it was not possible, even dangerous to connect a USB 2.0 device to an USB 1.1 port – and that I with my TiBook needed an USB 1.1 hub, or stuff would break….

Instead of just pulling a Garfield and moaning “I hate Mondays” expecting everyone to know what I mean, allow me to briefly outline exactly why I hated this particular Monday….

Sony Qualia 007

The (extremely) high-end Qualia 007 Super Audio CD Player (first shown at CES) is a designer’s wet dream come true…. Pretty show aside, the 007 outputs sound in digital format through its 32-bit S-Master dual-channel to two custom-built speakers made from Japanese Maple for a full, rich sound that that can fill (or overpower) a party full of drinking tech journalists.
