When I see that my friend Misha is “waiting at Genius Bar to send my MacBook to the shop,” that’s not much information. But when I get such granular updates every day for a month, I know a lot more about her. And when my four closest friends and worldmates send me dozens of updates a week for five months, I begin to develop an almost telepathic awareness of the people most important to me.

Clive Thompson rounds it up nicely – and I already know it works.

Since my twitter messages are mirrored as status messages on IM, my friends always have an idea of what I’m doing – and more often than not I am asked about it.

The fun is limited, thou, since few of my friends embraced that as well. The information flows only in one direction, even if plazes, where some of my mates have an account, added that functionality as well.

Paranoid? Well – you decide, what you put up there – and you decide if it’s true or not, after all …
